I'm glad I'm not the only one who had to look up some of these (I got 'beta couple' and 'wingfic' and either way I was like ??????? these aRE THINGS???)

I just looked up beta couple, isn't fleshing out those characters what half of fic is about? Is that a trope?

thiiiss - I kept getting stuck on the implication that the focus should be on the secondary 'beta' couple, but in the situation it pitches, they're merely a foil to the main storyline, so then it was trying to figure out how to approach the trope without going too far down the rabbit hole
